April 12th Fundraiser at Denver Marriott
Denver, CO – During challenging economic times, many of us face numerous uncertainties around financial security and even whether or not we will continue to reside in our homes. And, while these may be recurring thoughts in our day-to-day lives, we trust that friends and loved ones will support us. Now, imagine facing those same unknowns as a child or youth and with no one by your side. Enter the life of a typical foster child… Each year, more than 1,200 children in Denver County remain in the foster care system, due to parental abuse and neglect. Some children move as many as 15 times in two years, these children often feel homeless. April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, a time to encourage individuals and communities to support solutions for these children who desperately need a place to call home. The Light of Hope Breakfast is an annual fundraiser for Child Advocates, Denver CASA. The Light of Hope Breakfast both celebrates and expands the service of CASA volunteers working with children through Child Advocates, as it strengthens and expands CASA services for children throughout Denver. This free, one-hour breakfast is an opportunity to learn more about CASA services for our most needy and vulnerable children, and to make a pledge, with no minimum or maximum, to support these critical services. This year, we anticipate nearly 500 attendees who will be treated to an inspirational keynote speaker, Judge Glenda Hatchett. The Honorable Glenda A. Hatchett will make her first Denver appearance in support of Child Advocates, Denver CASA. A nationally recognized authority on juvenile issues, she is known for her award-winning television series Judge Hatchett and her book "Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say,” and the just released "Dare to Take Charge.” For over nine years, she has passionately supported the most vulnerable children by imploring millions of adults to stand up and make a difference in the life of a child as a CASA volunteer. Her efforts have contributed substantially towards the advancement of our cause for abused and neglected children. Child Advocates, Denver CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that trains, supports and supervises community volunteers who advocate for the best interests of innocent child victims of abuse and neglect. Each year, in Denver County there are over 1,200 children who have been physically, sexually or emotionally abused or neglected, and who are in desperate need of a caring, committed CASA Volunteer to speak up for their best interests. At Child Advocates, Denver CASA, there are over 150 CASA volunteers, and we are in need of more great community members to become advocates for children. CASA conducts volunteer training classes four times a year. The next class begins in May 2011. ?xml:namespace>
