Our Children

Imagine being a 9-year old girl living in shame and fear of your uncle who visits your room each night, forcing you to have sex with him. Or a 7-year old boy thrown into the role of feeding and providing for your two younger siblings because your mother has a methamphetamine addiction that keeps her physically and emotionally absent. Or a 5-year old girl whose 1-year old brother did not come home from the hospital last night because your mother’s boyfriend became too frustrated with him and caused fatal injuries. Now, imagine being eight years old and given five minutes and a garbage bag in which to collect your belongings before you’re removed from the only home you’ve ever known. Thousands of children in our community have lived through scenarios just like these.
