David Cass

David Cass was sworn in as a CASA volunteer on May 28th 2009. When he selected hisCASA Volunteer - David Cass first case, he chose the most difficult and challenging case with four children ranging in ages of, then 5 to 15.  When I thanked him for his choice, he stated.  "The hard cases are the ones that need a CASA."  David was able to instantly understand the family dynamic and advocate for the children accordingly.  His calm demeanor and resolve helped this family reunify with the tools they needed to be successful.  What appeared to be a hopeless case has had a miraculous ending.  The case has just closed with a very successful reunification.

The paragraph below is an email I received from the caseworker on David's case.  I think it is an accurate reflection of the difference he made in the lives of his CASA kids.

Dave Cass was a wonderful help to the Stevens family as they worked hard to become more financially stable, to get and keep the four children enrolled in school, and as the oldest child stabilized her mental-health issues and behaviors.  The case was fairly contentious initially, and Dave's ability to quietly absorb the situation, provide concrete assistance (rides, articles of furniture), and work with the caseworker to collect information provided Ms. Stevens with much-needed perspective, assistance, and a request for accountability that allowed her to get her head above water.  Most tellingly, the last time I saw the family, Dave arrived a few minutes later, and the youngest, a boy, shouted, "Dave!  I'm glad you're here."  Clearly Mr. Cass' influence and support was valued by even the youngest family member.  It was a pleasure to work with Dave in such a collaborative partnership.
