Shelia Smith
Many of you have met Shelia Smith. You might remember her as "the one with the 8 year case (?!)" You might remember her and her story from training, when she sat on the "Veteran Volunteer Panel," answered your questions, and made you question if this was really the kind of volunteer work you were looking for. You might remember her being recognized as "Volunteer of the Year" for 2008 at our Volunteer Appreciation event at Texas De Brazil. Or, you might remember Shelia from one of the countless times she has represented Child Advocates -Denver CASA, volunteering her time not only for her CASA case but also for the purpose of growing and supporting our organization.
I am pleased to let you all know that after eight years and ten months, Shelia's case has finally closed!! The child on her case was adopted on June 22, 2010 into a now picture-perfect family. Shelia has often joked with us that maybe we didn't want her talking with our new volunteers, that she and her unusually long case might scare them away. But I think her dedication to the child on her case speaks to something that sets our volunteers apart. The heart and dedication that so many of you share with the children on your cases is wonderful, and it's inspiring! Please remember to congratulate Shelia Smith the next time you see her! This happy ending was a long time in the works!
